Is it safe to take Viagra?

An issue of the Viagra safety is acute in the medical circles. The scientists want to thoroughly study the possible side effects of Viagra and potential risks for a man. More than tens of the clinical studies have been conducted that have confirmed a high safety of Viagra for men during short and long-term treatment of the erectile dysfunction.

979 men the average age of who was 58 took part in one of the clinical studies. This is the age group that has high risks of complications and side effects because of the age peculiarities. The study was conducted within 4 years. The results of the studies showed a good tolerance of Viagra by men in the older age group. Just 3,8% of men has the side effects but the side effects were light and did not bother to have sex.

The side effects are as follows (according to the frequency of the decrease):

  1. Headache and dyspepsia.
  2. Nasal stuffiness.
  3. Flushes.
  4. Temporal blurred vision or light perception disorder.
  5. Dizziness.

Just 1% of men complained about the light increase of the heartbeat, however, the expressed tachycardia has not been noticed. All side effects are soft, and are not dangerous for life and patient’s health.

Men took Viagra in various doses within 4 years: 25 mg, 50 mg, and 100 mg. The results showed that the increase of the dose did not increase the amount of the side effects. Most men, about 96%, were happy with the obtained effect and a tolerance of Viagra.

Due to this, we can say that the administration of Viagra is safe and is not contraindicated men at old age. But keep the contraindications in mind. The contraindications enhance the risks of the side effects in the cardiovascular system.

How does Viagra work?

Viagra is a vasodilator medication with a complex mechanism of the action. An ability of Viagra to inhibit the PDE5 lies in the base of the pharmacological action. During the PDE5 inhibition, a production of nitrogen oxide happens in the blood vessels of the penis. This substance should be produced during the sexual arousal, but it does not happen during the impotence.

The penis blood vessels are dilated under the action of nitrogen oxide, and are able to transfer more blood per minute. The increased blood flow to the cavernous bodies of the penis stimulates growing in size, like a sponge. So, the cavernous bodies in the penis are also called as spongy bodies. As soon as the cavernous bodies are filled with the blood, they become harder, and this way, a man has erection.

  • The erection mechanism happens naturally under the action of Viagra.
  • The PDE5 inhibition is not a constant process and appears only during the sexual arousal.
  • The erection is kept by means of the reduced outflow of the blood from the cavernous bodies.
  • The action of Viagra does not influence on the level of the sexual hormones.
  • Viagra is not able to block other enzymes of PDE5, and does not influence on the blood circulation in other parts of the body.

A substance that is responsible for all pharmacological action of Viagra is called as Sildenafil.

Why Viagra, and not a physical therapy?

A pharmaceutical therapy is considered as a golden standard in the treatment of the erectile dysfunction. Moreover, doctors do not consider the treatment by means of the physical therapy as a competitor to medications. How come?

The matter is that the administration of the stimulators such as Viagra gives a possibility to improve the erection here and now, i.e. a man takes the pill, gets a burst of the energy in one hour, hard erection, and can have sex. The action will last long, and the erection will not disappear at an unexpected moment.

Not all existing methods of the physical therapy (massages, treatment with negative pressure, and others) give 100% result. A man is not confident that the erection will last long. It makes an additional psychological discomfort that distracts during the sexual intercourse.

The administration of Viagra is safe and unnoticed. A man can hide his problem. This is another benefit. Your partner will not even know that you have the impotence, and you can live this way for many years.

The only method that may compete Viagra is a surgery. Due to the surgery, it is possible to cure of the impotence forever, but it has some flaws:

  • The erection will be mechanical.
  • A surgery is nonreversible.
  • The procedure is expensive and needs a surgical intervention.

You have to face it, this method is not the best. Not every man agrees to a surgery and a replacement of the cavernous bodies of the penis by the mechanical prosthesis in order to have sex. So, Viagra was, is, and will be the most popular and demanded product to treat the impotence. There are no alternatives on the market, yet.
